Why Skcript

Why teams build with Skcript

01

A global business

We build software for teams in North America, Europe, the Middle East and Asia.

02

13 years in enterprise AI

We have built AI systems for enterprises since 2013.

03

Our own products in production

We build and run FeatureOS and SupportWire, so we ship and maintain software every day.

04

AI-built, engineer-reviewed

AI helps us write and test code faster. Our engineers design, review and own every change.

Why switch

Why teams are moving off Retool

Per-user costs

Retool bills builders and end users each month, so the bill grows with every person who opens an app.

Features in higher tiers

Features such as SSO and custom branding sit in the Business and Enterprise plans.

Apps you cannot take with you

Retool apps export as Retool files, not as standalone code you can run elsewhere.

Limits on custom logic

Complex backend logic is hard to fit inside the builder, and non-developers often cannot make changes.

Ownership

You own it. No lock-in.

  • You own the code and the data.
  • It can run in your cloud, in the region you choose.
  • You can take it in-house at any time.

Before and after

The same admin screen, built for your process

Switch between the two screens to compare a refund screen built in Retool with the same screen in a custom internal tool.

What's included

What in-house internal tools include

Custom internal tools and admin dashboards with AI, built for your team. You own the code and the data, and we host and maintain them.

01

Admin panels and dashboards

Screens for the records your team works on every day, and nothing you do not use.

02

Your databases and APIs

The tools connect to the same databases and APIs your Retool apps use today.

03

Roles and approvals

Roles, permissions and approval steps that match how your team signs off on work.

04

Your data in your region

The tools run in your cloud or ours, in the region you choose.

05

Code you own

You own all of the source code. It is a standard web app, not a file for one builder.

06

Hosting and maintenance

We host, fix and update the tools. When you need a new screen or workflow, we add it.

How it works

How we build your internal tools in five days

For a standard org. After launch, we keep updating the tools with you under one flat engagement.

Discovery

We meet the people who build and use your Retool apps. We list each app, workflow, data source and who uses it.

You get: A one-page build spec for you to approve.

Standard org: up to [TODO] apps, [TODO] workflows and [TODO] data sources. Larger orgs are scoped on the call.

Migration

How to migrate from Retool

A standard org moves in under 72 hours. Larger orgs are scoped on the call. We list your apps, rebuild them on the same data, run both side by side, then switch.

01

List your apps

We list every app, workflow and data source, and who uses each one. Apps nobody uses are dropped.

02

Export what Retool allows

We export app and workflow JSON or your Source Control repo. Credentials are not in the export, so we set up each connection again.

03

Rebuild on the same data

We rebuild each screen and query against the same databases and APIs, with the same roles.

04

Run both, then switch

Both run side by side while your team checks the tools. Then we move users over before your Retool renewal date.

FAQ

Questions about building your own internal tools

Can I build my own internal tools instead of using Retool?

Yes. We build in-house internal tools and admin dashboards around how your team works, and you own the code and the data.

Can I export my Retool apps as code?

Retool apps export as JSON or Toolscript, which are Retool formats, not standalone web apps. We use the exported query logic as the spec for the rebuild.

Do Retool exports include my database connections?

No. Credentials are not part of the export, so we set up each database and API connection again in the new tools.

How long does it take to build custom internal tools?

For a standard org, the first version is ready in five working days. Larger orgs are scoped on the call.

Will I keep my data?

Yes. Your data stays in your own databases and APIs. Only Retool Database tables need a separate export, and we move them for you.

Who owns the code?

You do. The code and the data are yours, and you can take the tools in-house at any time.

Should a small team stay on Retool?

A small team on the Team plan may pay less staying on Retool. Send us your Retool invoice and we will compare the cost with you.

What does built with AI mean for quality?

We use AI to write and test code faster. Our engineers design, review and ship every change, and they have built enterprise AI systems at Skcript for 13 years.

Is Skcript affiliated with Retool?

No. Skcript is not affiliated with Retool. Product names are used only to describe what we replace.
